John Odette, MD – Bio
Dr. John Odette was born and raised in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He made his way to Texas to attend college at Texas Lutheran University. At TLU he studied molecular biology, and played on the college golf team. John grew to love Texas and over the years attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and completed his Internship in Fort Worth.
His residency in Ophthalmology returned him North to the Mason Eye Clinic at the University of Missouri. He completed his residency achieving excellence in cataract surgery, minor oculoplastic surgery, medical retina, pediatrics and glaucoma while becoming Chief Ophthalmology Resident his final year. He also completed research in the area of Non-Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION) which was published in 2010 and presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2009. Since residency he has become a proficient iLASIK and refractive surgeon and in 2012 became one of the first surgeons in Austin to perform Laser Cataract Surgery with the LenSx laser. He has also presented research on diffractive intraocular lenses at major meetings in both the US and Europe. Additionaly he is an active course instructor for surgeons in the United States for complex cataract techniques and intraocular lens exchanges.
During John’s career as a LASIK and Cataract surgeon in Austin he has also enjoyed doing volunteer medical work in underserved countries such as Nicaragua, Mexico, Ecuador, and Peru. He has completed multiple mission trips to perform cataract and other eye surgeries since 2008. John also has 2 children who engulf most of his time away from the office. John loves to provide care with a smile to all of his patients while at the same time providing the best medical and surgical experience.
